8th Annual Comedy FUNraiser for MFN!

The Friends of the Medford Family Network (FMFN) will be hosting our 8th
annual comedy FUNraiser on Thursday, November 11 at 7:00 pm Giggles
Comedy Club. This is an adults only event.

The cost for the event is 20 dollars. This includes all you can eat
pizza, a 75 minute comedy show and many many great raffle items and
baskets from local business in Medford and the surrounding towns.
A limited number of tables are also available for sponsors, including
prominent advertising at the event and year-long advertising on
medfordfamilies.org

Substance Abuse Prevention: A Community Effort

On Thursday, August 11 a group of local teens stood outside Medford Square liquor store Grapevine Travelers and asked forty-nine people to purchase alcohol for them.

According to Penelope Bruce, Underage Drinking Coordinator for Medford Health Matters and the Medford Board of Health, each of the forty-nine people turned the teens down.

We did it again! Medford Health Matters in partnership with the Northeast Center for Healthy Communities/Greater Lawrence Family Health Center was successful in its application for continuation grant money for 2010-2011. We look forward to working with you to continue our efforts in making Medford a healthy and safe place for our youth and families.

DFC grants are provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the federal government.

Two Weeks Since my Last Confession follows Molly O’Brien, daughter of a senator and raised in what seems to be the perfect life. But at thirty, she has a crippling heroin addiction and her life is on the rocks. What went wrong? Two Weeks Since my Last Confession is a moving novel of dealing with one’s past.
Kate Genovese is a member of the National Writer’s Union and also the author of two previous books – Thirty years in September : A Nurses Memoir and Loving Joe Gallucci; : Love and Life with Hepatitis C. Kate is a registered nurse in the community health field and lives in the Boston, Massachusetts area with her family.

Medford School Food Services, students from Tufts University’s Tisch Scholar program, consultants from the Massachusetts Farm to School Program, Medford parents and children, community members, and others gathered together on Friday, June 11 to enjoy a dinner composed of local ingredients to launch Medford’s Farm-to-School Initiative.

A local ordinance requiring all purchasers of alcohol to be carded – regardless of age – took many residents by surprise, but advocates for preventing underage drinking say the rule has been received positively by many retailers and restauranteurs.
